We came upstairs and we could see the moon
Big and bright
Casting shadows through the glass square into the room
We took turns to look at it closer through the supervision
You have to focus it just right to see it clearly
And you have to hold very still and breathe very quietly
So your hands don't quiver and shake too much
It can suddenly turn to blackness and you loose it
It might take a while to find it again
We took turns to look closer again and say
"Wow"
You can see the lighter spots and craters
The brightness lights up the whole window on the magnifiers
You can see at the edge where the boundary stops reflecting the sun
Highlighted silhouette
Fiery, crisp
We went up higher to steady our elbows better on the window sill
We stood in awe as we revolved slowly but also rapidly on the large rock
And we looked at the other swirling rock, also big but not as big
And it looked much smaller to us since we were so far away
Two swirling spheres waltzing around each other
Dancing to the sound of the universe
Each of us yawned and rubbed our eyes
Glad to know that the star would always be there in almost the same position, we each retired to sleep underneath it
Safe in the knowledge we would meet it again and be just as amazed as we were tonight

Me and the moon
All the way up there
All the way down here
So near and so far
